Caught a sneaky auto-renewal clause in my gym contract last week

I was about to sign a 12-month membership at a local gym in Denver when I noticed a tiny line saying it auto-renews at a 40% higher rate unless you cancel 60 days before the end date. The sales guy tried to brush it off as standard practice. Has anyone else gotten stuck with a hidden renewal fee like this and found a way to negotiate it out?

Yeah, "everywhere now" really hits home. I started checking my phone camera first thing at a new gym after I noticed price tags were missing on the bench press station. Definitely helped me avoid a few surprise charges.
