Finally got a 90 day renewal clause added after 3 tries

Last month my landlord tried to jack my lease renewal by $150 without any negotiation window, and I realized the old contract let them do it all the way up to move-in day. I dug out the original lease from 3 years ago and found the auto-renewal section buried on page 9, which basically gave me zero time to shop around. I pushed back with a simple amendment for a 90 day notice requirement and they signed it, but does anyone else check that renewal timeline before signing anything?
