Finally rewrote my cancellation clause after a 6-month headache
Took me way too long to fix this, but I finally swapped out my old cancellation language that said "either party may terminate with 30 days notice" for something that actually spells out what happens if someone bails mid-project. My last gig in Austin fell apart when the other side walked at week 7 of a 12 week build and I got stuck eating $2,800 in material costs because the clause didnt cover partial work. New version has a kill fee, a clear timeline for returning deposits, and a line about who keeps the work product if we split early. I used a template from a local small biz lawyer and tweaked it for my specific setup, took like 3 hours total. Has anyone else dealt with a vague termination clause that left them holding the bag on expenses?

Austin area prices are brutal, 2.8k hurts just reading it.

Depends what you're getting for it though, 2.8k covers a lot of space out there.
