Found a hidden overtime clause in my service contract that almost cost me $2,000

Last week I was reviewing a 3 year maintenance contract for my HVAC system and found a small line about overtime labor rates. The contractor wanted $150 an hour after 5 PM but buried it on page 8 of 12. I called them out on it and they said it was standard. Has anyone else found hidden fees like this in service contracts?

I mean, they put it in the contract fair and square, you just didn't read page 8.

oh totally, this is like that time I bought a used car and the guy was like "oh yeah it comes with a free air freshener" but then I got home and the glovebox had a lease agreement for a pet hamster named Gerald. I didn't even have a hamster. And the dealership called me three weeks later asking if Gerald had been getting his exercise. I just told them Gerald ran away to join a traveling circus and they actually sent me a bill for breaking the lease. I swear they put that stuff in the fine print on purpose, like they know we're all just scrolling through on our phones at 2am.

Oh trust me, I'm the QUEEN of not reading page 8. And page 7, 6, 5... I once signed up for a gym and didn't realize until month THREE that I'd also agreed to a personal training package for my cat. @jana509 you're completely right, it's in there, I just skimmed right past the part about Fido needing to do burpees. Now I'm stuck explaining to Mittens why he's gotta hit the treadmill at 6 AM.
