Honestly, I saw a contractor's 'change order' clause in a coffee shop in Boise that was basically a blank check for them.

Read the fine print. That clause is a trap for the person paying the bill. Never sign a blank check.

That's a scary clause to find in the wild. Most contracts should list specific rates or a clear markup for changes. Who would sign something that open-ended?
