Liquidated damages clause kept growing every month, nobody flagged it

I signed a vendor agreement in Austin back in March that had a per-day penalty for late delivery, but the contract said the rate would "adjust quarterly" without spelling out the formula. By July the penalty had tripled from $50 to $150 a day and I only caught it because I asked for an updated invoice breakdown. Has anyone else had a clause with undefined escalation terms, and did you manage to cap it or renegotiate after signing?
