Signed a $3,200 fence contract in Boise and the fine print let them tack on a fuel surcharge every visit
Got a quote for a cedar fence on my place in Boise back in April, and the guy seemed straight up, so I signed the same day for $3,200. The work was fine, but the final bill came in $280 higher because of a clause buried on page 2 that says they can add a fuel surcharge on every trip out. I called and asked where that was in writing and he just sent me a screenshot of the line I skipped over. Anyone know if these surcharge clauses are worth fighting, or should I just eat it and read every page next time?
That line about them being able to add a fuel surcharge on every trip out is sneaky as hell, and I'd be just as mad as you are. Honestly though, buried clauses like that usually hold up in court since you signed the paper, so fighting it might cost you more in time and stress than the $280 is worth. Still, I'd call and nicely ask them to waive it as a one time thing, because a lot of these guys will knock it off just to keep a good review.
