I did the coffee shop thing my first 3 months in Medellin. Thought I was saving money. But between buying overpriced lattes just to stay, bad WiFi cutting out during client calls, and constantly moving when it got crowded, I was losing like 20 bucks a day and wasting 2 hours hunting for a seat. So back in Chiang Mai last year, this older digital nomad at a coffee shop told me I needed to slow down... stay in one spot for at least 3 months to really get the experience. He said hopping around every 2 weeks like I was doing was just tourist mode, not nomad life. I argued with him pretty hard, said I wanted to see as much as possible. Fast forward to now, I spent 6 weeks in Lisbon then 3 weeks in Medellin and honestly, I feel burnt out. I barely made real friends or found a rhythm with work. But then I think about the amazing weekend trips I did and all the variety... it wasn't all bad. So I'm stuck wondering if he was right or if his version is just too boring for people like me. Has anyone else tried both long stays and fast moves and figured out which one actually helps your work and your headspace?

I got suckered into buying some expensive travel router that promised to work in any hotel or hostel across Asia, but when I landed in Bangkok last month it couldn't even stay connected for more than 10 minutes. Ended up having to buy a cheap local one for $30 at a 7-Eleven that worked perfectly for the whole trip. I spent 6 months bouncing between coffee shops in Lisbon and then 6 months at a proper coworking space in Bali. In Lisbon, I got through 3 client projects but kept getting distracted by the noise and hunting for outlets. In Bali, I finished 7 projects but felt kinda isolated sitting in a quiet room with strangers. The coffee shops gave me more energy but my output was lower by about 40%. My Bali coworking space wifi failure that cost me 3 days

I thought I could just show up to any cafe in Ubud and get good enough internet to do my video calls... turns out that was super wrong. The first week I was bouncing between three different spots and none of them could handle a Zoom meeting without dropping every 5 minutes. Noticed it when I was looking for a place to work in Lisbon. Scrolled through the list. 50 different cafes, bars, libraries. Half of them probably don't even exist anymore. Weird milestone but it made me realize how much time I spend hunting for a solid table and outlet.

Warning: Lisbon coworking spaces are getting way too loud

I spent three weeks in Lisbon last month working out of four different coworking spots. Every single one had the same problem - nobody respects quiet zones anymore. One place had a guy taking Zoom calls right next to the silent area, and the staff just shrugged when I asked them to do something about it. I get that digital nomads need to network, but there's a difference between a coffee chat and a full sales pitch at full volume. The worst was this spot in Cais do Sodre where someone was streaming a podcast on speaker for 45 minutes. Has anyone else noticed coworking spaces just giving up on basic noise rules?
