Appreciation post for that coworking space in Chiang Mai I found by accident
I was in Chiang Mai last winter for about 3 weeks and stumbled into this tiny coworking space off Nimmanhaemin Road. It wasn't one of those big fancy ones with a cafe and a pool table. It was just a quiet room above a laundry shop with like 8 desks and a kettle. The owner was this older Thai woman who brought us free mango sticky rice on Tuesdays. I ended up getting more work done there in 3 days than I did in a whole week at my last Airbnb. There was no AC blasting at full speed either, just ceiling fans and open windows. Felt more like a real neighborhood spot than a business hub. Has anyone else found a hidden gem like that somewhere random?

Actually, pastel de nata is the Portuguese spelling from Lisbon, but if it was at a place run by an old Portuguese lady it would more likely be called pastéis de nata, which is the plural version. I remember reading somewhere that the singular form is pastel de nata but you'd rarely hear just one offered up.

That bit about the mango sticky rice on Tuesdays really got me. A friend who travels a lot told me about a similar spot he found in some back alley in Lisbon once, just a room with a few desks and an old Portuguese lady who brought everyone pastel de nata from the bakery next door. He said it was the most productive he'd been in years, and I think I get why. Those big coworking places with the fancy coffee machines and the open plan layout can feel like you're working in a noisy airport lounge. There's something about a small, quiet room with a fan and a kind person looking after you that makes you want to actually sit down and do your work. It's nice to hear a place like that still exists and isn't just a story people tell.

Similar energy to a place I found above a laundromat in Hoi An, just 4 desks and a woman who made everyone lime juice in the afternoon. Big coworking spots feel like you're paying for the vibe, not the focus.
