Can we talk about the 'just book one way and figure it out' advice?
A guy I met at a hostel in Medellin told me to book a one way ticket to Lisbon and sort the rest out once I landed, said it keeps you flexible and cheap. So I did it in March and spent my first 3 nights in a $70 hostel dorm because every monthly room was gone and the good ones wanted a 2 month deposit I didn't have ready. His advice works if you're fine with winging it and burning cash while you look, but for me it was a $300 lesson in why I should lock a month first. Now I book 4 weeks ahead and hunt for the next spot during week 2. How far ahead do you all lock your housing before you fly in?
