Got stuck in a Chiang Mai cafe with a 30-minute internet blackout during a client call

Last Thursday, I was on a video call with a client from a spot I always go to on Nimman Road. Right as we got to the budget part, the wifi dropped completely. I had to tell them I'd call back, then spent half an hour using my phone as a hotspot just to send the follow-up email. The cafe staff just shrugged and said it happens. Anyone know a place in that area with a backup generator or more stable connection?

Nimman Road cafes are famous for spotty wifi though. It's just a 30 minute work hiccup, not a total disaster.

Maybe you should just use your own data plan for work calls.

That's a RIDICULOUS expectation from a company.

Push back a little here but hear me out. I actually get where @faithpatel is coming from in that Nimman's reputation for shaky wifi is pretty well known, but that doesn't make it okay for a business to just shrug it off when a paying customer's livelihood is on the line. Some of these places market themselves as digital nomad hubs, so a minimal backup plan like a power strip and a 4g router shouldn't be too much to ask for.
