My backup generator died during a power outage in Medellin on Tuesday
I was in the middle of a Zoom call with a big client when the power dropped and my $600 inverter generator just refused to start. Had to scramble to a coworking space 20 minutes away in the rain - anyone else had a piece of critical gear fail at the worst possible moment?

Hold up, check if your generator's carburetor float bowl has a drain screw that gets clogged with ethanol gunk. Medellin's fuel sits longer in storage tanks because of the humidity and the ethanol they mix in down there, and that creates this sticky varnish that jams the needle valve shut. I learned that the hard way when my Honda EU2000i died mid-storm last year, but now I just dump a bottle of Stabil treatment in the tank after every third fill and it runs smooth as butter. You might be able to pop that screw out, blast it with carb cleaner, and get it going again without any new parts needed.

Oh man, that's brutal... nothing like a downpour to really seal the deal on a bad day, right?
