My eSIM gave out in a Bangkok 7-Eleven parking lot, now I carry a backup SIM

I was in Bangkok last month, trying to order a Grab to get to a coworking space in Thong Lo, and my phone just went dead. No data, no signal, nothing. My eSIM provider had a server hiccup and I couldn't even log in to their app to fix it because I had no internet. I stood there sweating for like 20 minutes until a local guy let me use his hotspot to download the offline map. After that I went to a mall and bought a physical SIM card from AIS for like 200 baht, just as a backup. I still use the eSIM for normal days but now I keep the physical one in my wallet. It's annoying carrying a second SIM but getting stranded with zero connectivity in a city where you don't speak the language is way worse. Has anyone else had a total network failure while abroad, and what did you do to get online again?
