My laptop died in a hostel in Medellin and I had a client call in 40 minutes
So last Wednesday I'm working from my bunk in Medellin and my laptop just shuts off mid email. No warning, no weird noise, just dead. I grabbed my phone, walked to a cafe two blocks away with decent wifi, and did the whole call off mobile with my notes in Google Docs. The client never knew, but that was the longest 40 minutes of my life. Now I want to know, what's your backup plan when your main gear dies on the road?
How close were you to just telling the client your wifi cut out and praying? My backup is boring but it works, a hotspot on my phone plus everything saved to the cloud so I can grab it from any machine. The real trick is knowing where the nearest coworking spot is before you even need it, not hunting for one while your heart is pounding. That Medellin save was solid though, doing a whole call off mobile with docs open takes guts.
