Hitting city number 9 was when I had to admit I'd stopped seeing new places and just kept going because slowing down felt like quitting, so, for anyone who's been out here a while, when did the count stop meaning anything to you?

Reached my number 9 somewhere around year 3 and yeah, that was the exact moment the whole thing flipped on me. The funny part is you never notice it happening, you just wake up one day in a hostel that looks EXACTLY like the last four and realize you could not tell anyone which city you are in without checking your phone. I hit that wall hard in a place I genuinely could not pick out of a lineup now, and the sad part was I still booked the next bus like it was a job I had to show up for. Counting cities is basically just collecting stamps after a while, nobody back home is impressed and you are not even impressed with yourself. The day I stopped counting was the day the trips actually got good again, because I started staying places long enough to have a favorite breakfast spot instead of a favorite bus route. So congrats on hitting 9, that number is gonna haunt you for a bit and then it just stops mattering at all.
