Random waiter in Marrakech told me to slow down and eat with my hands

I was scarfing down a tagliatelle between client calls at this tiny cafe near the medina, and the waiter just said 'you eat like you're running from something.' He brought me mint tea and sat down, talked about how every meal should be an hour minimum. Has anyone else had a local totally call them out on their rushed nomad habits?

Wait @kellyallen, did you feel like you had to 'earn' the baklava first or something? Like there's a whole unspoken test of trust before you get the good stuff.

Dude, yes! I had an old lady in a tiny bakery in Istanbul grab my wrist mid-bite and make me put my phone away, then she fed me baklava with her hands for like 20 minutes.

Nah I gotta push back on that one. That "fed me baklava with her hands for like 20 minutes" part sounds like a cute story but honestly that would've made me uncomfortable as hell. I'm not letting some stranger put food in my mouth with their bare hands, especially not without washing up first. Plus if an old lady grabbed my wrist in a store I'd be like "lady get off me" not "wow what a cultural moment." Don't get me wrong I love street food and local experiences but there's a line between authentic and just straight up weird.
