The coworking cafe rule I only just figured out in Lisbon

I spent 3 months hopping cafes with my laptop, buying espresso every 45 minutes to stay welcome, until a barista finally laughed and said, 'you know we have a day pass for 10 euros, right?' That's when it hit me that I was treating a workspace like a coffee shop and paying way more over time. Now I'm wondering if the whole 'buy something every hour' habit is just a myth we tell ourselves to justify loitering, or if day passes are actually the better deal in most cities. Has anyone else had that moment where a local or staff member revealed a simpler system you'd been missing completely?
