The older guy at the co-working desk in Chiang Mai told me to stop chasing cheap rent
I was in Chiang Mai for 2 months last winter working from a co-working spot near Nimman, and the desk next to me was this guy in his late 50s who had been doing this for 8 years. He watched me spend a whole morning comparing $300 apartments on the other side of town, and he just leaned over and told me he wasted his first 4 years moving every month to save maybe $100. He said the money he saved never came close to what he lost by never knowing a single neighbor or where to get a good haircut. I ended up staying put the rest of the trip, and it was the most settled I have felt working abroad. How do you all decide when to stop moving around and just plug into one place for a while?
