TIL a client's comment about my "over-polished" look actually made me way more versatile

I used to always edit my photos with that crisp, contrasty style until a graphic designer told me my work looked like it belonged on a menu cover, not a personal blog. Has anyone else gotten feedback that totally shifted their editing style?

Yeah, that "stock photo" critique made me ditch the heavy presets for good.

The "stock photo" critique is a good wakeup call but I think the real trap is going too far the other way and making everything look fake gritty instead... There's this weird middle ground where photos look overly "artsy" just to avoid looking commercial and it ends up feeling forced too. Maybe the goal isn't ditching presets entirely but finding ones that just enhance what's already there without screaming "I used a filter".

Right?! @kevin_williams, did you just trash all your presets at once or gradually?
