Caught my shed roof flashing wrong, cost me 3 weekends

Put up a lean-to shed in my backyard in Austin and used that peel and stick flashing under the drip edge. It looked fine for two weeks, then a storm came and water tracked right behind the siding and rotted the bottom plate. I pulled it all apart and found the flashing was laid too flat, it needs to angle out past the wall plane. Lost about $120 in materials plus all that time, and now I'm redoing it with metal flashing instead. Anyone else had this happen or have a trick for getting the bend right without a brake?

Built a nice floating shelf out of solid oak for my wife's plants. Used what I thought were good brackets, 2x4s screwed into studs, the works. Looked perfect on Sunday. By Wednesday the front edge was dipping a full 3 inches in the middle. Turns out oak still moves and my little metal brackets were only rated for 20 pounds each. The shelf held up but it looks terrible now. I should have glued up a torsion box or at least used thicker stock with a steel angle underneath. Has anyone else had a big box store wood project sag on them that fast? What would you do different to fix it without tearing the whole thing down?
