A retired plumber in Tulsa told me to stop gluing PVC in cold weather and it finally clicked
I was swapping out a cracked trap under my kitchen sink back in January when it hit 28 degrees in my garage, and the glue set up before I could even twist the fitting. My neighbor, who ran a plumbing shop for 35 years, watched me cuss at it for ten minutes and said the cement needs to be above 40 or it just skins over. I grabbed a heat gun on low, warmed both the pipe and the can, and that joint held perfect on the first try. I know it sounds basic but I've seen three buddies ruin fittings the same way in cold shops. Does anyone here keep a cheap thermometer near their PVC shelf, or do you just wait for spring?
