Building my own workbench last Saturday taught me more than any video did
I finally built a proper workbench last Saturday in my garage using scrap 2x4s and a sheet of plywood I got for $38 at the lumber yard. My first attempt wobbled so bad I could push it with one finger, so I redid the leg braces and added a lower shelf for my air tools. What made that day stand out was my neighbor Dale, who's 71 and has been woodworking since he was a kid, stopping by and showing me how he notches legs by hand instead of using brackets. Watching him work, I got why the old timers always say measure twice and cut once, because I wasted two boards before he came over. Anyone else here learned more from one afternoon with a neighbor than from a whole weekend of tutorials?
