Compared a $300 stud finder to a $10 magnet, guess which one nailed it

Been framing in my basement for 6 months and fought with this expensive stud finder that kept giving false reads on my plaster walls. Bought it from a big box store in Columbus. Finally tried one of those little round magnets on a string from my shop. Found every stud in like 10 minutes flat. The fancy thing is sitting in a drawer now. Anybody else go back to basic tools after dropping cash on tech that doesn't work on old houses?

Wow, $300 for a stud finder? That's wild. Honestly I can't even imagine dropping that much on something that just points at the wall, but I'm not surprised it failed on plaster. Those things are basically useless on anything built before 1950.
