Dropped $340 on a cheap track saw and it saved my whole kitchen cabinet job
I know guys on here will tell you to only buy the fancy brand or don't bother, but I went the other way last spring when I was redoing the cabinets in my own kitchen in Akron. I grabbed a no-name track saw for about $340 with a 55 inch rail, mostly because I was tired of fighting my circular saw against a straight edge and ruining plywood sheets. First cut on a $70 sheet of birch ply and it came out dead straight, no tear out on the good face, and I just stood there kind of stunned. I ended up making about 40 cuts with it over that weekend, scribing the toe kicks and trimming the face frames, and the blade still felt sharp when I boxed it back up. The catch is the dust port is junk and the rail slips unless you clamp it, so I burned maybe 15 extra minutes per setup clamping every single cut. For a homeowner doing one kitchen it paid for itself easy, but if I was cutting cabinets five days a week I would probably want the nicer one. Has anyone else gone cheap on a track saw and had it hold up, or did yours die on you after a few jobs?
