Drywall mud took 3 days to cure in my basement. Is it worth waiting vs speeding it up?
I was finishing drywall in my basement in Denver and the mud just wouldn't dry. Took 72 hours before I could sand, even with a dehumidifier running. My buddy says he mixes in a little dish soap and it dries overnight. I don't trust that hack, but waiting three days was ridiculous. Anyone else deal with slow curing mud and found a real solution?

yeah i feel you man. i tried the dish soap thing once and ended up with this weird bubbly mess that looked like i tried to sand a marshmallow. not recommended. honestly i think the problem is basements just suck for drying. i live in a humid area and my first coat took like four days once because i forgot to crack the window. now i just run a big fan right on the mud and keep the dehumidifier going. still takes a day or two but at least it dries even. rushing drywall is like rushing a good steak, you just end up regretting it later.

Ngl, your steak comparison hits hard. My buddy tried to rush a basement job once and ended up with cracks so bad it looked like a dried up lake bed. @river_thompson is right about the fan though, that's the only way i get mud to behave down there.

Keep the fan cranked or it'll punish you.
