Just dropped about $400 on a portable miter saw stand for a fence project, and I'm not sure if it was worth it.

Honestly, that's a bargain for not hating your life during a fence build.

Don't you think a shop vac is a bit overkill for a fence build though? I mean, sure, it's great for drywall dust, but for a fence you're mostly dealing with dirt and grass clippings. A cheap leaf blower or a push broom would probably do the same job for a lot less money.

Totally! It's like paying a bit more to skip the misery tax. I see it all the time, like buying the pre-cut veggies instead of crying over an onion, or getting the good tape so your wrapping paper doesn't rip. Sometimes the cheap way just costs you your whole afternoon and your good mood.

Reminds me of the time I bought a proper shop vac for a drywall job. The dust was unreal, but that thing saved my lungs and my sanity. Some tools are just about keeping the project from ruining your week.
