That "missing half inch might as well be a mile" is the perfect way to put it, @torres.nathan. It's like the wood is gaslighting you after you've already made all your cuts. You'd think after all this time they'd just call it what it actually is, right?

Always measure the actual board, not what the tag says. I learned that the hard way after a whole project went sideways.

The lumber industry's weird naming system is a trap for everyone. You measure it and do the math, then the actual piece is a quarter inch smaller in every direction. It throws off everything from a simple shelf to a whole framing job. That missing half inch might as well be a mile when you're trying to make a cut list work.
