Old timer at the lumber yard showed me a simple trick for straight cuts on warped boards

Last summer I was fighting with a 2x6 that had more curve than a country road. Spent 20 minutes trying to fight it through my circular saw. This retired carpenter just walked over and said cut it with the crown up, not down. Felt like a fool because it worked perfect on the first try. Never thought about how the blade pushes the wood down and that gap closes up. Has anyone else had an old pro save them time with something that basic?

Tbh I learned the same lesson on a pressure treated 4x4 that looked like a banana. Spent 45 minutes cussing at it before my neighbor's dad came over, took one look, and just flipped it over. Cut straight as an arrow. I felt about two inches tall. Made me realize all those years of fighting with lumber could have been avoided if I just listened to somebody who actually knew what they were doing.

Keep that crown UP and let gravity work FOR you. Learned that one the hard way too after ruining a nice piece of oak.

Paul nailed it, ruined a solid cherry board myself that way.
