Overheard a guy at the hardware store say caulk guns are pointless, I had to speak up
Tbh I was grabbing a new tube of Big Stretch for a window trim job on Thursday when this older dude tells his buddy that caulk guns are just a waste of money and you can do it all with a finger and a putty knife. I almost laughed out loud because I tried that nonsense once on a baseboard in my first apartment in Austin, TX and ended up with a mess that took 2 hours to scrape off. For the record, a decent $15 caulk gun saves you from hand cramps and gives you a steady bead that actually looks clean, especially on long runs like crown molding. He then said he only does quick patches and never touches full rooms, which explains a lot. I asked him how he handles corners or a 14 foot span without making a lumpy disaster, and he just shrugged. Has anyone else run into these old school guys who think basic tools are overrated? Maybe I'm missing some secret hand technique, but I doubt it. What's the weirdest tool someone told you to skip entirely?
