Pro tip: skip the $300 laser level, a chalk line does the same job for drywall
I read all the reviews, watched the videos, bought the green beam thing. Used it twice on a basement framing job in Columbus. The thing sits in my truck now collecting dust. A $12 chalk line with some blue chalk did the exact same work for the layout. I see guys on here saying lasers changed their life, but honestly, for anything under 20 feet and not doing tile or conduit, it's a waste. My buddy swore by his, then borrowed mine for a shed build and admitted the chalk was just as fast. Am I missing something, or are we all just buying gear to feel professional?

Most of my laser use is for stuff like this too, hanging cabinets or door trim, and yeah a chalk line gets it done faster for framing and drywall. The only time I grab the laser is when I need a plumb line across a long wall or I'm doing a drop ceiling grid, that's where the beam actually earns its keep. Your buddies comment about it being just as fast is the real tell, if you ain't measuring out a level ceiling or something with a lot of fixtures, the chalk is the tool.
