Pro tip: That load of bricks shifted in the middle of a 3rd floor carry and I almost lost my hand

Last Tuesday in Portland, I was hauling a dolly stacked with about 200 lbs of old brick pavers up a narrow stairway for a backyard patio tearout. The strap gave way halfway up the landing. Bricks slid sideways, pinning my right hand against the handrail. I froze for a second, felt the pressure building, then shouted for my guy to wedge a 2x4 under the dolly to take the weight. Took us 20 minutes to unstack and re-strap. Hand was sore for two days. Any of you folks ever had a load shift on stairs and how'd you get out of it?

Honestly I was hauling a fridge down a flight of stairs once and the bottom panel gave out. Had to let it slide the last few steps and pray nothing was behind me.
