Rented a tile saw that spewed water everywhere, ruined my garage wall last Saturday

Tbh I should have checked the hose fitting before I started. Rented a wet saw from the depot in Tacoma, got it home, and the water line had this cheap plastic connector that popped off three minutes in. Sprayed water all over my drywall and my stack of cement board. I shut it down, dried everything with towels, and spent an hour taping plastic over the wall before I went back to cutting. The cuts came out fine after that, but now I got this ugly water stain patch I gotta prime and paint. Anyone else had a rental tool leak on them and mess up their workspace? How do you check a rental before you haul it home?

Drywall gets stained way easier than most people think, even with quick cleanup. You probably saved the paper face, but the moisture wicked into the backing and that stain will bleed through regular paint. Grab a stain blocking primer, not the cheap stuff, or you'll be repainting that spot twice. Next time, plug the rental in and run water through the line before you load it, takes two minutes and catches the cheap fittings before they ruin your day.
