Someone told me my 2x4 framing for a shed looked like a toddler's Lincoln Log set and they were right.

It was for a 10x12 shed in my backyard. A guy from work who builds houses came over, took one look, and said 'Your corners are floating, man. You need a proper sill plate and your studs aren't even on layout.' I was just nailing them where it felt right. I tore it all apart that weekend, bought a real tape measure with clear 16-inch marks, and used pressure-treated wood for the bottom plate. The difference is insane. How do you even learn proper layout if no one shows you?

My buddy Mark built a 8x6 chicken coop and nailed the plywood sheathing on UPSIDE DOWN so the texture was facing in. He didn't realize until he went to paint it a month later and the whole thing just absorbed the water.

That tape with the 16-inch marks is a total game changer, right. Did your buddy end up showing you the trick for laying out the whole wall before you stand it up?

My drywall looked like Swiss cheese before I learned that trick.

Oh man, don't even get me started. I was so proud of myself for just finding the marks on the tape. My buddy came over, took one look at my "layout" on the first stud, and just started laughing. He said it looked like a kindergartner's art project. Turns out I was marking from the wrong edge of the board for like an hour. So yeah, he showed me the whole wall trick, but only after I provided the comedy.
