Spent 4 weekends trying to align a sliding compound miter saw

I kept getting bevel cuts that were way off on a deck project last month, so I grabbed my Wixley gauge and spent four Saturdays in a row messing with the detents and fence. Turned out the arbor had a tiny burr from the factory that was throwing everything off by like 2 degrees. Has anyone else fought with a saw for way too long only to find something dumb like that?

I mean, it's a miter saw not a CNC machine. You probably coulda just bumped the fence with a hammer and been close enough for deck boards.

Did you check if your blade was actually square to the fence first?

Doesn't that just track with life in general though? @sethm58 is totally right, we always blame the tool or method first when half the time it's the basics we overlooked.
