That cheap stud finder gave me false confidence on a load bearing wall
I found the real joist with my old magnetic one after the $15 gadget beeped over nothing twice, the drywall screw pulled right out in Spokane, anyone else trust the simple tools over the fancy ones when it counts?

Laughing at myself because I've got the same cheap stud finder and it once told me a load bearing wall was full of joists every two inches. Turns out it was just detecting the metal tape in the drywall, and my magnetic one found the real stud in about three seconds. I hung a heavy shelf on the fancy one's word and it pulled out by lunch, now I keep the magnet in my pocket and the beeper in the junk drawer where it belongs.
