The $240 dehumidifier that saved my basement workshop from mold hell

I put a cheap one in my basement shop last spring and by fall the drywall behind my bench had black spots. So I dropped $240 on a real unit with a pump and set it to drain into the sink. It pulls a gallon a day down there, and the rust on my tools stopped showing up. Anyone else run a dehumidifier year round or just during humid months?

Why not just fix the actual airflow problem instead of masking it with a machine that runs forever? I ran the numbers once and the power bill on a unit like that can eat into what you’d spend on a better vent setup in a couple years. Honestly, if your drywall already got spotted once, that $240 is just a band-aid on a bigger moisture issue, not a cure.

That $240 buys time while I figure out the real fix, and that's worth something too.
