Unpopular opinion: that $8 speed square is more accurate than my $40 one
I was squaring up a small cabinet build in my garage last Saturday and grabbed the cheap plastic speed square I got at the hardware store in Spokane about 2 years ago. Figured I'd check it against my nice aluminum one with a dial caliper, and the cheap one was dead square while the expensive one was off by about a degree. Turns out the plastic ones get molded in one shot and don't warp from getting dropped like the metal ones do at the corners. I've been babying the wrong tool this whole time. Anyone else notice the bargain squares hold up better, or did I just get lucky with this one?
