Vent: My neighbor said my deck stairs would fail inspection, and he was right about the stringers
Built a set of stairs off my back deck in April with 3 stringers spaced 16 inches apart, thinking that was plenty since the deck boards held fine. My neighbor Ray, who did framing for 20 years, walked over, looked at the span, and said "son, that's gonna bounce like a diving board." I got mad at first but measured the run (11 feet) and realized he was right, so I pulled it apart and went to 4 stringers at 12 inches on center with 2x12s instead of 2x10s. Whole thing cost me an extra $85 in lumber and a Saturday, but it feels like concrete now. Curious what spacing you all use for a run that long, and do you ever use a mid landing instead?
