Walked through a new build in Portland and noticed something weird

I visited a buddy's new house in southeast Portland last week. The whole place has smart switches and fancy fixtures but the kitchen island has zero outlets. Builder said they saved $400 by skipping them. Has anyone else seen this kind of cut corner in new builds?

Builder probably figured nobody would notice until after they moved in. Classic case of saving a few bucks now and making the homeowner rip out countertops later. My last rental had zero outlets in the bathroom, guess I'm just used to microwaving my coffee on the floor at this point.

Man, that's such a boneheaded move. You can always add a pop-up outlet in the island later but it's a pain to cut through granite or quartz after the fact. I'd check if there's a code requirement for outlets on islands in your area, some places are super strict about that now.

Yeesh, that's such a common thing I see with homeowners skipping steps. It's like when people decide to paint over wallpaper instead of stripping it first, yeah it works for a bit but you're just kicking the can down the road. Folks always wanna save time or money upfront but end up paying way more later when stuff has to get ripped out and redone. Half the battle in any project is just thinking a few steps ahead, but I swear nobody wants to do that anymore.
