Watched a neighbor build a deck in one weekend with just a drill and a saw, made me rethink my whole tool hoarding habit
So last Saturday I'm drinking my coffee and look out the window. My neighbor Dave is out there with literally a cordless drill and a circular saw. No table saw, no miter saw, no pocket hole jig, no nothing fancy. By Sunday evening he had a whole 12x16 deck framed and decked. I've got like $3,000 worth of tools in my garage and I've been planning a simple bench for 8 months. Made me wonder if having all the gear actually slows me down. Has anyone else realized they were overcomplicating builds just because they had too many tools?

Hold on, is this really something to lose sleep over.

Tbh I used to stress about stuff like this all the time until I just started asking myself one question. Will this matter in a week? If the answer is no, I let it go. For me, it was about realizing that not every disagreement or small thing needs my energy. I started keeping a little list of what actually drains me vs what really matters. That helped me stop losing sleep over dumb stuff. Once I focused on my own peace, everything else got way easier to handle.

The week question works for me too but I had to add a second one. Is this something I can actually control? If not it just gets filed under noise and I move on. Saved me a ton of pointless worrying.
