Heard a guy at a diner in Raleigh say he never pitches on Fridays, and now I want to know if that's a real thing
I was eating breakfast near the airport and the two guys at the next table were going back and forth about when to send a first email to a new lead. One of them swore Friday afternoons were dead and that Monday mornings get answered way more, and he even pulled up a note on his phone showing 9 replies out of 30 sends one week. I've always just written my pitch whenever it was ready and hit send, but sitting there I started thinking I might have been doing this wrong for a long time. Does anyone here actually track what day and time gets the most replies, or am I overthinking a thing that mostly comes down to the pitch itself?
Timing matters way less than what happens after they open it. Think about it, a Friday afternoon email sits in the inbox all weekend, so Monday morning it's buried under 40 other emails and they never see it. A Tuesday at 10am email might get opened first, but if your pitch has no follow up and no second touch, you're just hoping one send does all the work. The guys tracking replies by day are probably also the ones who never send a bump a few days later. I'd rather send on a "bad" day and follow up twice than nail the perfect window and fire once.
