I read a study that said 70% of cold pitch emails get opened but only 2% get a reply. Found it in a marketing newsletter last Tuesday.

Forget open rates... the real stat is how many of those opens are just people checking the sender name before deleting. That 70% could be a quick glance at the preview pane, not actual reading. The newsletter probably left that part out.

70% get opened" is wild, I heard most go straight to spam.

Yeah I used to think that too, like who even opens emails anymore. But my work sends out these internal updates, and I'll open them just to clear the notification, maybe see if there's a free lunch mentioned. I mean that counts as an open, right? So that 70% probably includes a ton of people like me just doing a quick check and then closing it. Makes you wonder what "opened" actually means.

Opened that exact newsletter myself last week and immediately felt attacked by those numbers. I fall into that 70% all the time, I open cold pitches just to feel important for a second before hitting delete. Probably makes me look like an Absolute idiot to whoever is tracking opens on their end.
