My sister said my follow-up emails sound like a robot

She read one I sent to a potential client and said 'Honestly, this feels like you copied it from a 2015 blog post.' I always thought being super formal was professional, but now I'm wondering if a more casual, direct style works better. What's your go-to tone for follow-ups?

Seriously, it's just an email. I do what @dixon.mia said and keep it simple.

I just write like I'm talking to a friend now, and it gets way better replies.

Wait, you used to write differently?

Totally get what Mia means. My old work emails were so stiff and formal, like I was writing a legal document. Switched to just typing like a normal human and people actually started reading them. It's crazy how much easier it is when you drop the act.
