Pro tip: I found a stat on cold email open rates that made me change my subject lines

I read a report from Mailchimp last week that said the average open rate for cold emails in my industry is only 17%. I was using generic 'Hello' subjects, but now I test putting the prospect's company name in the first three words. What's one small tweak that boosted your reply rates?

Yeah, adding a specific detail helped me too.

The company name trick works but you gotta be careful it doesn't look too spammy. Adding their industry or a recent news mention about their company in the first line has given me way better results than just slapping their name in the subject. Pair that with a super short subject line under 6 words and you'll see those open rates climb higher than 17% for sure. corap61's point about specific details is key - it shows you actually did your homework instead of just copy pasting a template.

Seventeen percent sounds about right for cold emails. Not sure a company name in the subject is the magic fix everyone needs.

My marketing prof said personalization boosts replies by like 30%, @garcia.cameron.
