Appreciation post: I was wrong about using a string line for long runs
I always eyeballed it for anything under 50 feet, but a foreman in Boise showed me how a simple mason's line catches a 2-inch dip you'd never see. Anyone else have a basic tool they finally started using right?

My uncle in Spokane finally got me using a chalk line for deck footings last summer.

My old boss in Tampa would laugh at me for not using a torpedo level on outlets. He was right.

My first foreman in Jacksonville made us use a 9-inch level on every single device plate. It adds maybe ten seconds per outlet but the finished wall looks pro. Crooked outlets are the first thing people notice in a bad install. That boss was tough but he drilled good habits into us.
