I finally called out a crew for their sloppy post hole digging in my town
Saw a new team putting up a privacy fence on Elm Street last week, and their holes were maybe 18 inches deep in our clay soil. That's a winter frost heave waiting to happen, guaranteed. I pulled over and asked their foreman if he knew the code here requires 36 inches minimum. He shrugged and said the homeowner wanted it cheap. How many callbacks do you think they'll get when those posts start leaning in February? What's the worst shortcut you've seen another crew take just to save a few bucks?

Right? I saw a crew skip the gravel base for a whole driveway once, just poured concrete right on dirt.

I used to cut corners on post depth too, until a whole section of fence I put in tipped over after one winter. The repair job took twice as long and cost me the whole profit from the first job. Now I show homeowners pictures of frost heave damage and explain why the extra foot of digging is non-negotiable.
