Picked a gas auger over electric for a 200-post job in Austin, then ate my words

I had to choose between renting a 2-stroke gas auger or buying a decent electric one for this fence line in Austin, and I went gas because the soil was pure limestone. First 30 holes were fine, then the clutch started slipping every time I hit a root, and I lost half a day fighting it. Meanwhile my buddy with the electric model on the same type of ground drilled 40 holes without stopping. Has anyone else switched back to electric after a gas unit let them down mid-project?

Read an article a while back about how torque on electric augers got way better once they went brushless. Not saying gas is dead, but the newer electrics handle roots and rock better than people give them credit for. Also no carburetor to mess with when you set it down for a week, which was always my pet peeve with 2 strokes.
