PSA: My old post driver finally gave out on a job in Springfield last Tuesday.
The handle snapped clean off about two feet from the top when I was setting a 4x4. It was a Stanley I've had since my first year in the trade, maybe 15 years ago. I had to finish the line by hand with a sledge, which added an extra hour to the day. Anyone have a recommendation for a driver that can take a real beating?

I've had the opposite luck with fiberglass, honestly...

Honestly, that "snapped clean off" line hits home. I used to swear by fiberglass handles for everything, but I've seen too many fail just like that. Ngl, I'm all about a solid steel driver now, even with the extra weight.

My uncle's garage in Toledo has a 30 year old fiberglass hammer that's outlasted three of his steel ones. The snap happens when people use them as pry bars, not for their actual job. Steel drivers transfer way more shock up your arm on a tough bolt, that's just physics. I'd take a lighter tool that doesn't beat up my joints over a bit of extra metal any day.

Kimblack's uncle has a point, but the real issue is cheap fiberglass, not the material itself.
