Showerthought: I was listening to a podcast where a guy said 'a fence is only as good as the ground it sits on' and it made me think about my last job in that sandy soil near the coast.

Brian, that job was a nightmare. We ended up going twice as deep as usual with the footings, basically building concrete icebergs. Even @jesse_coleman78's long-post method would have been shaky there. The inspector made us add a whole extra row of supports before he'd sign off.

Remember my buddy who tried to build a deck on pure sand? His posts looked like a drunk fence line after the first rain. Had to redo the whole base with those deep concrete tubes.
