Update: I used a 4-foot level to check a 50-foot vinyl fence line in Phoenix and the ground slope tricked me into thinking it was perfect.

I mean, after the third panel went up looking off, I realized I should have used a string line from the start, so has anyone else had a simple tool fail them on a long run like that?

Ngl, my buddy tried that same trick and ended up with a whole fence that looked like a roller coaster.

I actually just saw a video from some old timer carpenter who said a 4 foot level on a long fence is basically useless unless the ground is perfectly flat. He swore by a water level or a long string with a line level for anything over 20 feet.

My old hiking boots saved me last time. I put those grippy rubber soles sideways on the steepest part and just took it slow. It felt way more stable than trying to walk straight down.

Tell me about it, that slope is a real ankle assassin. Felt like I was trying to walk on a funhouse floor. Gravity won that round for sure.
